UNPKFC joins forces with the education sector to organize Maghi Purnima activities, advancing education for global peace leadership through the “Walking Peace” initiative.

KOLKATA, India, Feb. 1, 2026 — In a world increasingly shaped by division and unrest, Buddhist monks, university students, and peace advocates will come together in eastern India to observe Maghi Purnima through a symbolic peace dialogue and silent march affirming the enduring values of non-violence, coexistence, and compassion.
The programme, titled “Walking Peace: Compassion, Coexistence, and Non-Violence in Action,” will begin at 3:00 p.m. at Sister Nivedita University (SNU), followed by a contemplative silent walk to Biswa Bangla Gate and back to the university campus. The initiative seeks to transform peace from an abstract ideal into a lived, visible, and collective action.

The event will be inaugurated by Dr. Satyam Roy Chowdhury, Chancellor of Sister Nivedita University.

The Guest of Honour, Dr. Aphinita Chaichana, Global President of the United Peacekeepers Federal Council (UNPKFC) and Global Chairperson for Southeast Asia of the United Nations Association of Coachella Valley, California Chapter (UNA-USA), will deliver a keynote address on peace leadership, ethical responsibility, and intercultural understanding, emphasizing the role of youth and academic institutions as moral anchors in times of global uncertainty.

The programme will open with a peace dialogue session, including Buddhist chanting and reflective teachings on the contemporary significance of Maghi Purnima—a sacred observance commemorating the Buddha’s call for moral discipline, compassion, and harmony within society. Monks will engage with students in dialogue on how these timeless principles can be practiced in daily life and translated into responsible global citizenship.

A silent peace march will follow, led by Buddhist monks and joined by students, faculty members, and peace advocates. Participants will carry placards bearing messages of peace, deliberately free from slogans and devoid of political or commercial expression, underscoring the initiative’s spiritual and humanitarian foundation.

A distinctive symbolic presence in the march is ALOKA, a Kolkata street dog recognized by organizers as a living emblem of compassion, dignity, and non-violent coexistence between humans and animals. Organizers noted that ALOKA’s participation conveys a universal message: that peace is inclusive, extending beyond humanity to all living beings. The initiative also symbolically connects with peace walks beyond national borders, including in the United States, reinforcing its global resonance.

The initiative is convened by Dr. Dipankar Roy, Global Advisor to UNPKFC, in collaboration with Dr.Aphinita Chaichana. Organizers emphasized that the event is strictly non-political and non-commercial, conceived as a calm yet powerful expression of peace rooted in spiritual values, ethical leadership, and shared humanity—not protest, but purpose.

Peace is not spoken loudly.
Peace is walked gently.
Peace begins within—and extends to every living being.
